Thursday Thirteen - The Clean House Version!

Week 74 ~ My #26

1. I took these 4 extra days off werk as holidaze because (a) I needed a long break and (b) I had a ton of stuff to do around the house that just never gets done in the 'normal' working week.

2. Seems like kind of a waste of holidays, but on the other hand, it is worth it for me as I feel better that things are getting under control on the homefront and that is peace of mind that you can't get by going off on a vacation somewhere.

3. Here's what I accomplished so far: kitchen deep down cleaning including inside all cupboards, behind fridge, throwing out / donating things I no longer use; basement (putting everything in place and cleaning / purging after the flood of 2006.

4. Oh.my.dog ... I can't believe I wrote this post on September 14 about everything that I needed to do and I'm still not done yet.

5. Here's still what is on the list to get done: Bedroom deep clean, including ensuite bathroom cupboards and drawers and clothes closet, mud/laundry room/front hall closet, finish putting my Mum's things away (I'm halfway there), clean window blinds (this may have to take place over a few weekends ~ anyone have any good tips on the way that they clean these?).

6. I did a major reorganization of my kitchen countertops and cupboards. I thought 'outside the box' and moved things from one cupboard to another. Just because they've been in that cupboard for 15 years, doesn't mean they have to stay there! hee hee

I uncluttered my countertops, removed jars, canisters etc. that were contributing to that cluttered feeling and made room for them in the pantry cupboard. I don't feel that I have enough counter space as it is, and this stuff was adding to this feeling. I'm thinking that the new uncluttered look will help everyone to keep it looking clean and not let things pile up in the kitchen that shouldn't be there.

7. Those magic pads, you know the white ones, are awesome!!! I must have gone through about 6 so far this week. They are great for cleaning walls and trim. (How come I'm the only one that notices the finger marks on the walls and doorways??)

8. Batgirl helped me by cleaning out all the kitchen drawers and organizing everything nicely. She also helped in the basement.

9. Of course, while doing this the list of things that need to be fixed has grown, discovered as I work the rooms. Pool Boy is going to be busy!

10. I will take my Christmas decorations down this weekend. I'm still enjoying them in the evening. I still have to take a picture of my new little pink Christmas tree. I've delayed because I still have some ornaments to hang and I don't have any hooks. It seems like all the stores I went to, even before Christmas were already sold out.

11. Here's a picture of me Mistletoad I already posted about instead. Isn't he precious?

  1. 12. Here's a picture of our outdoor lights, taken from my bedroom window. Pool Boy already took down the blow up snowmen when I took this picture. Still a bit of snow left but it's been disappearing from the small dump we had after Christmas.

13. Back to werk on Monday Jan 8th. I'm grateful that I had the holidays available and was able to take them at this time.

  13. We packed our Christmas boxes in the attic yesterday. In a way it was good because now I feel like my house looks ALMOST clean!

  14. You can clean your blinds with a pressure washer. In fact you can clean your whole house with one.
If it works on the siding of a house it must work inside..
ps. let me know if it works..

  16. Wow ICL- You've been busy! I can't help you with the blinds because I don't have any. Try looking at www.queenofclean.com. She's awesome!

I don't like a bunch of stuff on my counters either- makes it easier to cook that way.

You are motivating me to do the same- but a pile of paperwork awaits me at my desk. ;-)

  17. Yep a clean house makes a happy Cheeky too!!

As for cleaning the blinds - it depends on what kind you have. In my old house I could take them off and soak them in the bath tub....I have wood blinds in this house and can't do that

  18. You've been busy! I don't have any blinds and my decorations will go in this weekend too (after the feast of the Magi).

  24. I think it's better you close your house and go away and wait until it's done from alone ! I am getting dizzy with all these "to do" things. Just came back to the muddy weather here after my 2 weeks of non stop sunshine,an untrue blue sky and 25° ! Now I am depressed and offended ! I just look at the thinks I have to do ! But ! Blogworld has me back again, that at least is fun !
