This is the door of an old church ruin on the largest Aran Island (Inishmore) off the west coast of Ireland. Temple Benan is only about 13 feet deep and 7 feet wide. It would accommodate maybe 20 people. People stood up for mass in those days. It originates from around 900 A.D.
That is Mum at the door taking a picture of the stone altar. I like to include any pictures I have of my mom on my blog because it brings me comfort as she passed away last year.
These islands are where the original Aran (fisherman) sweaters came from. Each sweater is knit with a different pattern, so that if the fisherman was lost at sea, his body could be identified by the pattern on the sweater.
