I grew up listening to the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem on account of me Irish mother and her bounty of their albums! Plus we grew up in these sweaters, also pictured below!
One of my favourites follows, to put you in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day!
Now what would St. Patrick's Day be without a pint of that frothy Guinness beer?
Did you know that Guinness is actually healthy for you and less calories than other beers?
That's why they came up with the slogan "Guiness is Good for You".
Sláinte
(to your health)
I will be havin' a pint or two tonight meself when we head over to our church for an Irish Ceili with Irish Stew, Irish Dancers, music and dancing.
This will be my first one that I've attended since me Mum died.
Tomorrow would have been her 75th birthday!

The utterly impractical, never predictable,
Sometimes irascible, quite inexplicable, Irish.
Strange blend of shyness,
pride and conceit,
And stubborn refusal to bow in defeat.
He's spoiling and ready to argue and fight,
Yet the smile of a child
fills his soul with delight.
His eyes are the quickest to well up with tears,
Yet his strength is the strongest
to banish your fears.
His hate is as fierce as his devotion is grand,
And there is no middle ground
on which he will stand.
He's wild and he's gentle,
he's good and he's bad.
He's proud and he's humble,
he's happy and sad.
He's in love with the ocean,
the earth and the skies,
He's enamoured with beauty wherever it lies.
He's victor and victim, a star and a clod,
But mostly he's Irish—
in love with his God.
And a very Happy St. Patricks Day to all me fine Internets!

An Old Irish Blessing
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours!

I'm Irish too and hoping to go to Ireland for our honeymoon in 2008. I have never had Guinness though...does that take away from my Irishness?

Robin ~ you must go on your honeymoon. What a relaxing and enjoyable time that would be!
BTW ~ Guinness is an acquired taste. You can't have one Guinness and fall in love with it. You have to have about 10 (not all at once ~ or maybe ~ he he) over a period of time and you will definitely get that thirsting for it. Same thing happened to me with grapefruit juice. I could stand it, too sour, but someone told me that if I drank it every day for lunch I would start to like it and they were right! LOL
Mar - I can see the green coming through your comment like no t'morrow!
There was a lot of goodies for us in this post!
I LOVE Guiness since I were in Ireland.
CHEERS to St Patricks Day and Ireland :-)
