What's in a name?

originally uploaded by irish_church_lady.

Do you like your given name? Yes I do. It's not that common anymore and has a sophisticated sound to it, in my humble opinion. I also like my middle name because it is my Mum's name.

Do you know how your parents chose your name? I think it was after Deborah Kerr, the actress.

Do you have any nicknames? I've had quite a few. My current one is Debs. As a child it was Debbie Down because I used to climb up a lot and my Mum was always telling me to get down so it got shortened to Debbie Down, kinda like you would talk to a dog.

How do you feel about some of the more unusual names that have become popular lately? I like unique uncommon names alot but not bizarramundo names like River, Sun, Leaflet etc.

Do you think an odd name carries a stigma as the child grows up? Odd yes. Unusual no. There was a kid at my school who's name was Harold but he went by Harry. His last name was Dick. Think about it. Why would his parents given the poor guy that name?

Irish Church Lady, I'm sorry that I'm having a hard time reading this post; it comes out too lightly on my computer.

However, I would like to add your blog to my side bar and assume you wouldn't mind? I really like the straightforward way you write. A lot. I also like to find a woman of faith.

Deborah is a fine and strong Biblical name. Also my sister's name (same spelling) yet we've never, ever called her that. I beleive her friends call her Morella from the Poe story. Weird, huh? Well, so is she! LOL

Debbie Down? That made me laugh out loud. Sounds just like you! ;-)
Have a great evening. :-)

Belleza - I couldn't read it either so I've changed it since you were by (I think!). Oh please add me to your sidebar. I will do likewise.

Thanks Lisa ~ so I assume your sister goes by Debbie? I took the rose pic in Ireland at Garnish Island gardens. I got a lot of great flower pics there so you'll likely see more laters.

I totally cannot believe that you just listed my name in bizarramundo names. Seriously. It's a good thing I like you or I would demand that you strike that one from the record.

Mist - so is your real name Leaflet? Oh well, I like that better than Duotang.

Thanks for stopping by!

I like the name Deborah, but I'm with Lisa's mom: I don't like names that can be shortened. Kinda puts me in a pickle on Nicholas. I can deal with Nicky, but Nick just reminds me of some sleazy enforcer from a mafia movie.

Debbie Down... is that like a dog saying "Hi, my name is No No Bad Dog."

I like my name too. Though I was named after a girl my father had a crush on. My mom wanted to name me Ruth. I thanked my father a million times for naming me. My mother never let either of us forget how I got my name. It's still a family story.

Back in the day Beth was unusal. Now ton's have it.

I have never liked either one of my names. And yet, I'm not sure what other name would be appropriate for me. So, I guess I'll keep it.
