Blah blah blog

Trying to get over a yucchy head cold that I've had all week so I'm laying low today trying to recover. Read some of my book Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy, read some blogs and played with some toys.

Found this at Debbie's Fruit of the Spirit earlier in the week and have been meaning to do it.....

List ten things no one talks about anymore, then tag 5 people.

  1. Balancing their cheque book. Who writes cheques these days? Oh sorry, checks for you southern folks.

  2. Kiddle Kolognes - Did anyone have these. The were scented little dolls that came in cologne shaped bottles. I had Lavendar (purple), Sweet Pea (white), Honeysuckle (yellow) and ?????? (the hair on her was bright green).

  3. Can't say incense, because it's back with a vengeance! My youngest burns it all.the.time! So instead I will say pot pourri. Do people use this regularly? I have no idea. Whenever I have it smells good up close but does nothing to smell up a room or anything.

  4. Purple People Eaters

  5. Typewriters - man they sucked compared to computers! he he

  6. UFO's - ha ha ha heard a joke about this the other day. Ever notice that since the popularity of digital cameras and camcorders nobody sees UFO's anymore???

  7. Looking forward to the mail delivery. No one sends letters anymore so what possibly could be exciting in the mail except bills. Blah!

  8. Unions - it's not that nobody talks about them anymore, it's just that they don't have the same importance that they used to it seems. They're sort of out of vogue, passé, past their prime, kinda have a negative connotation, not like the positive one you get from the movie Norma Rae. Maybe they're all getting too big and demanding and ridiculous to take seriously now.
  9. Swizzle sticks - you can tell I'm starting to scrap the barrel now ay?

  10. Shotgun weddings - ha ha ha mine would have been a shotgun wedding if we hadn't already set our wedding date for for four months after we got engaged. You've heard of honeymoon babies? We call her our engagement baby. he he
Pick up a tag if you want one on the way out :-)

Going to watch some DVD's now ... Ciao internets!

This looks fun -- I may have to try it. Nice job; now, I hope you get over your cold.

I just ordered Whitethorn Woods from Amazon but the order has a shipping date of May 29 on it. Ack! I'm going to have to change that! I love Maeve Binchy and I want that book much sooner than that! (Apparently, they were going to ship Whitethorn Woods with a book by her that's coming out the end of May, which I pre-ordered.)

I remember having seen a movie called 2002 of course in 1968 or something that was far away in the future ! But what they showed in this movie was so stupid that now I never watch future movies ! According to that movie we all would be robots today without any feelings !
Using "pot pourri" is very fashionable ! Especially amongst youngsters to hide "other" smells, lol ! I had the experience with my son and friends !

Suzanne~

I've only read one of Maeve Binchy's books, Firefly Summer but I loved it!

This one, Whitethorn Woods, is like a collection of stories, kinda intertwined. It's good, but it's not a novel. It apparently went to the NY Times Best Sellers list as #2 when first released if you read her website linked above. There's also an excerpt from the book on the website.

Did you know she is 80 years old? I heard she was retiring soon and would not be writing anymore. Can you recommend other favourite books of hers to me?

Thanks!

Gattina ~ I'm not a big fan of futuristic or sci fi movies either. Hubby likes them though.

Here's what I watched:

3 Needles about the aids epidemic from three countries viewpoints. I would recommend it. Beautiful scenery and very interesting story if somewhat disturbing.

An Inconvenient Truth a little more boring than expected (sorry, and I am a global warming fanatic!) but some good parts. I guess I was expecting more because it won all those Oscars. My hubby fell asleep and I didn't even force him to watch it!

Pot Pourri ~ I still don't get it. The smell is not strong unless you put it right up to your nose unless I'm doing something wrong with it. Maybe I'm supposed to burn it? LOL :-|

OMG...I'm from the south and I still write check...to my credit cards. I like the cash back for my necessary purchase, then I pay it all in full. Last year, I got close to 1000 in rewards....so it's not bad...unless you keep a balance, then it's really bad!

Shoshana ~ yah I guess that makes sense. Hubby is the one who pays the bills so what am I talking about anyways? lol

Hi, ICL --

I have done the meme and it's up on my blog!

I still keep a checkbook but whether it balances or not is another question. LOL! If the bank has me with more than I show myself having, then I'm happy. ;-)

Some other good books by Maeve Binchy are Tara Road, Scarlet Feather and The Copper Beech. Circle of Friends was made into a movie. Amazon has a very complete listing of them if you do a search under her name there. I didn't realize she was 80 but I'm not surprised. Thanks for the info!

BTW, my e-mail address is SuzyQ421@aol.com. :-)
