Where's the Irish Church Lady?

I'm sorry that I haven't been a good blogging friend.

There's a few things going on over here so I'll give you a bit of an update:

  • Pool Boy and I had this wonderful experience at Worldwide Marriage Encounter. I need to do a separate post on this when I have time. It was so awesome! The bottom line was that it really helped us to take stock in what is good with our marriage and relationship together, and reunite as a couple. We are now working together as a team. We feel much friendship and kinship and love for each other.

  • We actually felt like honeymooners for the first few days after our encounter. I would say that we still would now except that we have had some pressing issues that have prevented us from connecting as we would like. We now hold the key and secret to this wonderful way to communicate and become truly intimate in our relationship, and I am thrilled with this knowledge and new found hope that all our dreams really can come true.

  • So the pressing issues have been getting some major work things done on the homefront before he goes in for his surgery on Monday. This has been exhausting both of us, and of course has been very hard on him physically because of his handicap. We press on because we know that after the surgery, we do not want anything to jeopardize his rehabilitation. Anyways the list is getting crossed off, however it will take us the rest of the weekend to complete the tasks. (lawn fertilized and seeded, spray deck, fix garage door, paperwork, roof shingles that need repair, house cleaning etc.)

  • We have a coop student living in my son's room now and he is great! Really nice kid. We couldn't have got a better one. We spent last weekend getting the basement in tip top shape including installing upper cupboards in the kitchenette, fixing things, clearing out my son's stuff and cleaning. All the girls chipped in and helped and we got it done but just in time. This is to help offset the loss of income from Pool Boy not working and it's been a great decision so far.

  • I've only managed to bike to work once so far, with everything else going on. I doubt next week I will be able to at all with going to work and then to the hospital after work. Oh well, hopefully soon. Keeps me off the injury list, anyways! he he

  • Big congrats to Pool Boy ~ one of the tasks he got done was opening the pool! So some local ducks have made our pool their swimming hole. I blogged about it before. They were coming back all the time and swimming on the cover and now that the pool is open, they are back in the water. Even the dogs don't seem to scare them away permanently. Not sure how we feel about this yet as we are concerned about a big mess, but being animal and bird lovers it's hard not to love a couple of love ducks in our big pond!!!

  • In other news, the Ottawa Senators are doing a bang up job in the second round of the NHL playoffs. If they win tonight against the NJ Devils, then they take the second round. They have 3 more games and all they have to do is win one of them to win this series. We take particular interest in watching the games as we are great fans but also because the Senators doctor, Dr Chow is Pool Boy's back surgeon! He scheduled his surgery around the playoffs. If they go to game six then it's Pool Boy he will be attending to in the four hour surgery Monday 8 a.m. and the Ottawa Senators bench on Monday 7 p.m. in Ottawa. LOL

  • My daughter #1 has bought her first home and is busily fixing it up before she starts moving furniture. The place was a mess, compared to the first house she bought that fell through. It was rented out to a lady that smoked and kept it dark and dingy all the time. I didn't see it before she bought it but when I saw it the day of her close I was shocked at how dirty and awful it was. I was in fact really surprised that D#1 bought it because the condition was so bad. Well she wanted a fixer upper and that's what she got. So with some help from her friends they have ripped out all the carpeting and started cleaning the walls with TSP(?) to get the nicotine out and ready for painting. Next comes hardwood floors, carpeting and I think she wants to put some new bathroom fixtures in but I'm not sure what yet. She did a cute little video on it with her new camera. I will post it here when she sends it to me. Her ex bf, DQ Boy, has been helping her a lot. I may have to go back to calling her DQ Girl after all! LOL

I miss you guys. I just can't commit to regular blogging again yet. It's already 10:30 and yikes, I have to get on with my list!

I hope all is well with you all. I will try to visit soon!

Prayers for Pool Boy on Monday, if you're so inclined.

Big hugs

Hiatus

Yay Ottawa Senators!! They won the first round of playoffs 4 games to 1 with a 3-0 shutout last night against the Pittsburg Penguins (Sidney Crosby - one of my sister's dogs is named after him, yup they're big hockey fans!)

They've been able to achieve this the last few years and usually don't make the second round. Here's hoping 2007 will be the year!!

I was so zonked last night after a busy busy week, all I could do was stay awake to see the game but I almost went under between periods! I didn't even turn on the laptop.

Today I'm working from home while I do laundry and I'm getting my hair done - colour and cut at 3:30. Double yay!!

The best part is I'm on a wee bit of a hiatus for the weekend. I won't be blogging because I'm going on a Marriage Encounter. By myself. LOL Not true. Read all about it on ICL Talks.

Prayers for us and well wishes appreciated!

All my photo memes are up:

Thursday Challenge ~ Wildlife
Friday Photo ~ Country
Saturday Photo Hunt ~ Steps

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Happy Easter Monday!

Hey what is the significance of Easter Monday anyways? Does anyone of y'all know?

Fast like bunniesHope y'all had a great Easter weekend and are fresh like bunnies to start this new week!!

I've got a cute Easter Monday Manic Monday up. Lisa really does come up with the best questions for Manic Monday and sometimes I like to tease her when I play along. yuk yuk

While you're there and if you like the music on here for Easter, check out a really cool new song and video from Casting Crowns called "Who am I?". Just discovered this song and I love it!

So on to some personal stuff.

Big news! Mr. Philosopher has been nominated for an award at his college for programming (computer music). Last year he was nominated for his songwriting. He says he doesn't care if he wins or not but it's nice to have his music recognized and adds "I couldn't have done it without my crazy brain and my laptop, go computers!" A boy after me own heart! Oh, ya and he's moving in with his girlfriend at the end of the semester so looks like we may be taking a trip down to help him move soon.

'Course it's exam and term project time at all the colleges and universities so my kids and nephew are busy busy busy. Didn't make it home for Easter, although my daughter who is at a local university did manage to come for dinner at my sis's place last night, even if she did bring her books! Yay Nurse-a-baby!

#1 daughter is in Scotland and returning home tomorrow. She's been there a week with her friends. Her friend was dancing in the World competition for Irish dancing. Get this, she text messages us to say she's going on a date with a Hot Scot! lmao Not only one, but two dates occurred within this one week timeframe!!

Ah well, she's young and a busy lass! She got a promotion at work right before she left to go away! She takes possession of her first home on May 1st. Yup, the wiener will be moving out!!!Not straight away, because she has some work to do in the house first, but hopefully before the end of May! I need to get all the furniture that Dad gave her out of the garage!

I'll miss the doodle but not always sleeping in my bed like she has the past week thought she's really not much trouble because Pool Boy takes her out rofl!

Werked from home today (hey, maybe that's why I'm in such a good mood?) and managed to boogie off to the pit at lunch with my sis and our doggies. Didn't take any pics this time, but she did.

So I'm just wondering do I blog more about my kids or my pets? I don't like to brag too much about the kids because that's just boring for y'all but just so you know, they put.me.through.hell during the teenage years so when I do it's because I've earned my bragging rights he he.

And furthermore, I'm not out of the woods yet ~ notice no reference to Batgirl today? That's 'cause she's basically in her own little world these days and we've got some issues to clear up, nothing serious, I hope, but nothing to brag about there (yet) either! ho ho ho

So I might as well just finish off with Pool Boy who is going to see the back surgeon tomorrow, finally. Let's hope they do something quick! I can't take it anymore!!! Not sure how he's doin' ROFL.

What's up Doc?I have a wee little surprise too that I will blog about soon about Pool Boy and me. Nothing big at all, but something positive anyways. I will be getting back to do some posts on ICL Talks to give a little update on the situ. I'm going to go back to venting on that blog and quit keeping things bottled up.

Famous last words! Wasn't it just last week I was saying that I was going to slow down on blogging and proceeded to post pretty much every day and twice on Sundays still!!!!???

OK so I may still have some issues.

Sadmess

I awoke crying this morning from my dream.

I dreamt that my FIL had passed away. That wasn't what made me cry in the dream.

We were at my parents old house and moving furniture out. My Mum was there. I asked my husband if he told my Mum that Grandpa had passed away and he said he did not. How could he? She was dead.

I said no she's not she's right here at which point I motioned to her and he couldn't see her. Only I could. Only I could hear her. At that point I grabbed her arm and started leading her around the neighbourhood for a walk all the time balling my eyes out about nothing was the same since she was gone and how sad I was all the time. She just nodded and agreed with me. I just cried all the more and woke up sobbing. My husband even woke up and asked what was wrong.

Why couldn't she speak to me in my dream and tell me positive things to get me out of this sadness?

What's ironic is that when I started this post I intended to title it SADNESS but I typed SADMESS by mistake. It really is a sad mess which I want no part of and want to move on. I just don't seem to know how to or am able to bring myself to. Some days are better than others. This one appears to be one of the others.

Perhaps it's because it's Good Friday or because I watched Scrubs last night that she showed up in my dream. Those that saw Scrubs will understand.

Good Friday everyone.

Australia and Flying Doctors!

aka R'acquel has a great post up for the Cyber Cruise on the Leura and the Blue Mountains.

It got me thinking about my own family connection to Australia. Although I have never been, my oldest daughter has and here is some pictures from her trip below.

Other than that, I have a historical family connection with Australia on account of a first cousin who was married to an Australian Flying Doctor.

Her story is rather tragic, in that she died in a plane crash flying with him after being married only six weeks. Her name was Renee Burke, from Ireland. She died on October 22, 1953.

The pilot, Martin Garrett, died as well, though her husband, Dr. Timothy O'Leary, also from Ireland, survived. He went on to write two books, North and Aloft and Western Wings of Care about his experiences as a flying doctor.

Dr. O'Leary died in 1987 at 62 years of age. His focus was on doctoring in the outback, the isolated lands of inland Queensland and the Gulf country. As a member of the Royal Flying Doctor Service started by John Flynn.

Although an allure of a glamourous and exciting lifestyle made it easier to recruit new doctors, due to the remote and lonely living conditions, and sometimes dangerous situations associated with night flying, these recruits often did not stay on past twelve months. O'Leary did this for 27 years.

He spent his first five years at the Charters Towers post, which closed in 1972 (transferred to Cairns), and this is the basis for his first book, North and Aloft.

Thank you to Lori Harloe, of the Department of History & Politics, James Cook University of Nth. Qld for additional information I was not aware of from my own relatives.

As a child, I was very close to Renee's brother, my uncle Tony, who also had emigrated to Canada like me Mum. Although he lived with his family in another city, he would travel to Ottawa on business and I always anticipated his visits with great enthusiasm, as he always arrived with a bag full of chocolate bars while he and my parents stayed up all night, in typical Irish fashion.

Sadly he has passed on, and his wife. For a time we had stayed in contact. I met my second cousins, in fact my daughter is named after one of his children, Séana, and my niece shares the name with another daughter, Tara. His eldest, is named after his sister, Renee.

Thanks, Racquel, for helping me to dredge up this part of my story, which is really what this blog is all about, documenting my legacy. And thanks to you internets, who have made it down this post thus far!! LOL

Dis an' Dat

In honour of yesterday's screaming out loud rant post, I've decided that I enjoy saying this and that or rather 'dis and dat. So for today's post, I'm gonna tell you to do dis and dat.

You may choose to oblige and do da dis and dat dat I tell you. Or you may ignore me but call me a dumb kumquat and den go home. (See it really is contagious isn't it?)

Maybe I'm just missing talking like a pirate and am using this as a substitute drug. Oh well, I'm not paying you for my psychoanalysis.

Here's da dis an' dat:

Go here to see dis. Warning ~ very sentimental!! *snort*

Go dere to see dat. It really happened!

Go over dere to see dis. Very funny video!!

Oh and check this out! I put a post up on 2KBloggers about the Cyber Cruise.

2k Bloggers Check out my post on 2K Bloggers. If you are a member of 2KBloggers you can post on that blog. This is my second post. Here was my first. It was an interview with a fellow 2K blogger, Jas Chocolate.

Oh and I can't forget about our speaking Italian day over at RennyBA's Terella where we visit the grandness that is Rome on the Cyber Cruise. Good times!

An' when yer done with dat, tell me all about it! Heeeeee

I'm crabby but still cruisin'

Having a loverly day at Chesapeake Beach, Maryland with Melli and all her friends! Of course, I'm on the Cyber Cruise with Cap'n Mrs Lifecruiser. She's a blast! Hey if you're looking for someone fun to hang out with, she's your man ... ah ... er ... I'm mean lady.

Hey you don't have to be a regular cruiser to spend the day with us at any port. Just comment away, once, twice, many times and tell us what you're up to while you tour that port. Show us what you bought on your blog! Share similar experiences. The more the merrier!

It look's like this Cyber Cruisin' may be around to stay for awhile so hop on board. More details below.

Rant follows ....

So I picked up this great T-shirt in Maryland, after I stuffed myself with crab, because I felt it would only be fair that I should wear this T-shirt on certain days for fair warning.

Some days (like some days this week!) I feel so angry like I could tear a strip off someone. I know it's only the hormones but it feels like it comes so frequently now and so intense. I don't like feeling this way (oh ya, who does?).

I can't like clock out of work for a week every month (ya my fuse has been really short with some people this week but I managed to keep it under control) and shut down my blog and ignore my family so that I don't have to deal with any one for these days. OK I was just kidding about the blog part. LOL No, but I mean I get really sensitive sometimes and I need to just chill out.

Like I'll use an example of my dear dear friend Gattina. Yesterday she posted about today's Cyber Cruise port and the previous day's Cyber Cruise port but forgot to mention mine, which was yesterday. (Thanks for the visits y'all BTW!) It was an honest mistake. I had signed up for that port late. She had pulled the schedule down onto her laptop earlier, before I had been added.

Of course I pointed it out to her and she promptly apologized and corrected, such a sweet thing! But here I was thinking it was a slight against me? Am I on crackers?

Here's another werk example, I send an email asking for clarification on something, I get a response back with a long winded answer with more info than I asked for and no direct answer to my question. Please, just answer the feckin' question people!!

Will it take more time or not with this additional scope and if so how much? Don't tell me that well you're going to do this, and then you're going to do that and then you're going to pick your nose ... and? So is all of this nose picking and dis and dat included in your original estimate or what? I can't read minds!! Hellllllloooooooo!

Nor do I care that you are planning to pick your nose after you dis it and dat it! All I want to know as project manager is did you screw up your first estimate and now we need to alter course (so to speak Cap'n heee) or can dis and dat and nose picks be absorbed by your first estimate. Don't try to hide behind how complicated it is.

If you did your freakin' homework up front and researched it a little more you would have known how complicated it was when you did your first low a$$ ball estimate. That's called accountability, nerd face. Now you expect me to flower it all up for you because you missed the boat (heeee! see I can still laugh with these cruise references!)

OK, a legitimate scope change requested by the customer, I'm right behind you buddy and will back yer a$$ up all the way to Chesapeake Bay. I'll friggin' document it and get it signed off and your little wee hiny will be smelling so sweet we will all want to kiss it and mine too! ah ... er .. well never mind.

All of the above was said about a person who I have great respect for. So why am I all whiney a$$ about this person because I am so hormonal or fucked up. (Hey, did you notice I used all of the other slang terms for the F word before now in this post and now only have to resort to using the actual word because, well frankly, we're talking about me here, and this is the only word that fits!!)

I won't even go into the family side of things, well because, that's just too cruel, on my part. It's is them, not me. But my hormonal imbalance probably doesn't help the situation. 'nuff said.

Plus, I like cry at the drop of Melli's hat (LOL, couldn't resist Mel), for anything sentimental or sad. Sheeesssh! I cry at church for dog's sake, because the readings or homily touches me. It's so embarrassing. Oh and of course, in church (well not just church), we pray for others and ourselves and our families and while I am doing that before mass starts, I'm start to tear up! I can't take it anymore!!!!

I just want to laugh and have fun and do fun things! All advices and empathies graciously accepted. You can even use the F word and tell me to suck it up!

I want a new drug

I caught a portion of a radio interview this morning of Suzanne Somers with one of our local morning radio hosts.

Her latest thing is promoting the benefits of 'Bioidentical' hormone replacements. She maintains that while it's unclear if they will shorten her life at all due to hormone replacement therapy risks, she says it's quality of life that is important to her.

As I enter my perimenopausal years, I often wonder if I would be better off with hormone replacements, bioidentical or not. I'm just starting to research into it further.

I'm interested to know the thoughts and experiences of my readers.

Wait, there's more~!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes ....

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time

lyrics to Changes by David Bowie

Notice some little wee ch-ch-ch-changes around here?

I've shortened my sidebar (I know it's still way the hell long) and set up links to my other blogs across the top. You know, just some regular housekeeping. Gotta get ready for those two blog reviews that are coming up soon. ha ha ha

So as part of cleaning up, you know the drill, you stuff things into closets that don't need to be out hanging around. That's what I've done with my blog. I've built some cupboards for storing things, the only difference is that I don't mind you going in and snooping into these cupboards.

They are up high, but I know you can reach them. Here's what their labels mean:

Home ~ well that's here. ahem... next.

About ICL - a brand new blog with a design from the one and only, and the best, Goofy Girl! I love the colours on this blog. Tell me what you think.

This is where I'm going to do my meme stuff and about me tags - you know like the ones where you have to write all that's weird about 'cha. There's one posted there now and some of you are tagged.
ASIDE [BTW, what's the blogging etiquette for tagging? Are you supposed to trot on over and tell someone they're tagged or is it okay to just tag them and if they see it and do it fine. If they don't, well they didn't (either because they didn't see it or didn't want to). It's all fine by me. ]

ICL Talks ~ oooowww, scary stuff. But it's not on there yet. It's still bottled (up inside).

Crazy Stuff ~ well that's where I play with all my kool tools and fun stuff, comics will go there, my buttons are all stuffed in that closet too. Oh I have still a few lying around here as well but I'm not finished cleaning up yet, plus you need to keep a few knick knacks out for the decor don't 'cha know?

Me Videos ~ some people don't like music playing on blogs but I like to watch and collect music videos and of course me own home made pet videos, so I'm going to post them on here.

Personal Photos ~ this is ICL is at Home. I've had this blog for a bit now and have been doing my fun photo memes on it like Saturday Photo Hunt, Foto Pherrets. I will continue to do this and post my serious (bah ... when am I ever serious?) photos at my photoblog ICL Snaps. Wait! Don't go there now. There's a really disturbing self portrait of me which I would prefer go down the page a bit. It pretty much looks like I've snapped. Well that's what you get here folks, raw and naked me.

100 Things about Bloggers ~ still there and growing. If you would like your 100 things added to the list, I'd be happy to add ya!

So I'm sure you're kind of distressed and annoyed now because you are thinking, I don't want to have to keep up with all these blogs? Damn it! I'm dumping that Church Lady!!

Well hang on there. If I have something I really want you to read, I will post something here to send you there. Otherwise, it's pretty much all the same stuff. Except what I will end up putting on ICL Talks, but that's just toooo personal so if you wanna read it, then you need to blogline or google reader that blog, or any of them, that you are interested in.

So that's all she wrote and all the Church Lady said so that's all I'm gonna say about that.

G'night, Forrest!

6 weird things

Bellezza tagged me for this meme.

I thought I had done it before but it was actually 5 weird things about me. This six promises to be completely different. I've slept since then.

1. I used to love Saturday Night Live in the mid 80's when Billy Crystal, Jon Lovitz, Martin Short and Christopher Guest were regulars on that show. Some of my favourite skits were the
You Know What I Hate? Willie (Christopher Guest) and Frankie (Billy Crystal) discuss means of self-torture, Fin-de-Siecle Prison Homosexuality (Guest & Lovitz) - omg this one was so funny but I can't find a transcript, Fernando's Hideaway (Billy Crystal), Jackie Rogers Jr.'s $100,000 Jackpot Wad (Short), Ed Grimley (Short) . There was one particular episode that Eddie Murphy came back to guest host which was so funny - it had Mr Robinsons Neighbourhood (Murphy), Black History Minute (Murphy), White Like Eddie (Murphy). I used to have the best of SNL for one year on Betamax tape. I loved each one of the skits on the tape. I would love to have the exact tape on DVD now. For now I just have to reread the transcripts above to get a laugh but I would love to be able to share some of these skits on film with you. Lou Grant Rescue Mission was funny too.

2. I hate if I'm late for a movie and miss seeing the movie trailers from the beginning.

3. I was in a couple of car accidents last year when I was traveling out of town. One was my fault and one was not. Consequently I have become a bit of a nervous backseat driver. It drives my hubby nuts because I feel he drives too close and I'm often raising my hands to the dashboard and bracing my feet as if I'm putting on the brakes. We've come up with a compromise. If I'm getting nervous because of his driving, I say the words "I'm anxious" and then close my eyes and leave it up to him to alter his driving if he feels necessary or not. I guess you could call it the couples version of "Jesus, Take the Wheel!".

4. I really haven't done anything for Christmas yet. I bought a few small items but that is all. Some of the decorations are up (thanks to my daughter and hubby for the outside). I'm not into Christmas at all this year, even less than last year, which is kind of unexpected, as I would have thought last year would have been harder for me as it was the first Christmas without Mum. I hope the spirit comes soon.

5. I'm a perfectionist in some things but I also rush through things. Take my posts, I really hate it when I find a typo or missing word in them if I reread them over later after I have posted it. The problem is that I don't take the time to proof it before I post. I'm giving you internets all free license to say "You're a dork" whenever you see a typo in my post. Please, please, please point it out. I want to see how often this occurs without me realizing it and then maybe it will make me take more care to proof my work.

6. I used to have a mild fascination with snakes. As a kid I adopted a wild garter snake from our cottage, brought it home and took it to school to show my class. It was funny because my aunt was really afraid of it and on the way home from the cottage, her boyfriend would tease her by using his belt to pretend it was the snake and tell her that the snake had got out of the box in the car. She freaked. I think I let it go after a couple of days. In my teens, I held a huge boa constrictor at some wildlife park in Florida. My Mum freaked. I think that my fascination of snakes came from me wanting to prove I was brave. I'm not fussy about them now. I'm not afraid of them but I don't like them like I used too. Prolly doesn't help that my husband hates snakes. I have not seen Snakes on a Plane, nor have no desire to, but check out Snakes on a Blog, it's cute.

Nothing too racy like last time.

I'm not gonna tag anyone but welcome anyone to pick this up if they feel so inclined.
